A Dancing To Victory


He stretches his body leaving every muscle visible to the audience. He slides and

glides across the stage, while making everyone sit at the edge of there seats. He

dances to the music as if the song was made just for him. He seems to dance with

emotion letting his body do all the talking. The song ends and everyone jumps to

there feet applauding his wonderful abilities. James rush off the stage with a smile

on his face. He is so excited. Once he reaches behind the stage, his friends who are

also apart of the Elvin Elle’ dance group, applause him for his great solo.



James felt so high that not even the absents of his mother could bring him down.

Because of his mother’s abused to drugs, James was forced to leave home at the age

of thirteen. During all the hard times he had to face, James found his escape

through dancing. After the show, James rushed over to his mother’s South Philly

row house home, to tell his mother what he have just accomplished. Once he

reached his mother home, James was hesitating. He wasn’t sure if he should go

inside.



He finally gathered the strength to go inside. He slowly opens the door, while yelling

for his mother. She quickly runs to the door wondering who was calling her. When

she finally realized it was he, She started to frown. Ignoring his mother reaction,

James extended his arms to give her a hug. She walks slowly towards him allowing

him to hug her. James was so excited that he didn’t even allow that to bother him.

He begins to tell her what a great night he had and how all the people were

appraising him. She quickly cuts him off and asks for five dollars so she can get a

hit. James was so discussed. He couldn’t believe what his mother just asked him.

James frowned at her and walked out of the house.



On his way home, James received a call from Ms. Kelly Washington. She told him

that when he left some big time producers was asking for him. She also said that

they want him to call then with thin a week. James called the next day and with

thin a month he was future in over fifteen videos, some being: Rihanna, Unfaithful;

Rihanna, SOS; Beyonce, Naughty Girl; and many more. Once he reached a high

level of success, James took one more offered to rescue his mother. He went back to

the South Philly row house. And this time, James was in for a surprise. He opened

the door and his mother was there with her bags packed. She told him that she

checked into a rehabilitation office and the she was going to do right. He then told

her that if she complete all the step and really keep clean, that he would buy her a

house. Since than he James and his mother are doing well and they are both living

in a house located in New York.

Peer Review Questions

Exposition
1. The story takes place in a dance theater and in South Philly.
2. Before the story James is doing a solo dance and everyone is applauding for him. He is excited and goes to visit his mother at her home.

Conflict and Climax
1. The central character mother is on drugs and he wants to save her.
2. The problem is worked out when James returns back to his mother house after he has been featuring in music videos. He tries to go save his mother once again but she has already checked her self into a rehabilitation. She remains clean and they share a home in New York.

Denouement
1. The story ends with James getting his mother and himself a home in New York
2. An extra scene to strengthen the plot would have been a drastic scene where James mother is actually high on the drug and James sees his mother looking real bad.

Characterization
1. The characters involved in the story are James and his mother.
2. James role is a talented man who loves to dance and releases all his stress through dance. He is a wonderful son to a mother who is on drugs and wants to rescue her from her addition. James mother is a mother who is on drugs but knows that she has to get her self together so she begins rehab.

Direct Characterization
1. The author tells us that the protagonist is muscular and flexible through his dancing. He is determined, caring, and does what is right. The author shows us that because when James shows up at his mother house the first time and she frowns and act as though she barley want to hug him he looks pass it because he wants to help her.
Indirect Characterization
2. I learn that the protagonist is family person, soft hearted, and forgiving. He looked pass his mother drug problem and did not judge but try to help her. When it does not work the first time he tries again and when he sees that his mother is serious he gets them a home together.
Suggest an added detail to strengthen the description of one major or minor character
3. James mother could have had a scene of how she acts when she is high and more dialogue between and her James so readers could get a more detail on her character.
